The iPhone is coming …

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

In this article …

1. iPhone
2. iPhone Insurance

Read on …

You probably already know that the most anticipated thing in the mobile phone industry is coming soon - the much awaited iPhone launches on the 9th November here in the UK.

And I have a personal secret for you …

For someone who works in the mobile phone industry, I don’t normally get that excited about a new mobile phone - with most phones I just think “Sure, its handy, but its just a phone”.  However, the iPhone is different.

I AM excited about the iPhone.  We purchased one early so we could check it out and see what all the fuss is about.

And I can honestly say - now I KNOW what all the fuss is about.

It is THE most amazing phone - and I don’t say that lightly!

It is a mobile phone, an iPod MP3-player and an internet-access device all rolled into one device with state-of-the-art easy-to-use navigation.  And the good part - I am NOT over-hyping this.

It is without a doubt a major turning point in the growth and development of mobile phones and telecoms in general - as well as the overall connectedness of people.

The only real downside is that you need to see it to fully appreciate it.

For this reason we are recommending that …

1. You watch the free videos available on your site, and

2. Preorder your own iPhone so you have it, to fully experience it.

You will then be in a better position to sell and earn from the next major wave in telecoms.

iPhone Preorder:
Right now on your site, you and your customers can pre-order the iPhone.  This means you can place your order in advance of the rush and be the first in the queue to get it on November 9th.

You can do all of this at http://www.2u.co.uk/iphone

iPhone Insurance:
As you can probably imagine, because it is the best phone/iPod/internet-access device on the market, the iPhone is not cheap.  It will retail at £269 on O2 contract.

Pretty much all owners are going to be proud and protective of their new iPhone.

This means there is going to be a big demand for iPhone Insurance - to protect their new expensive device.

For this reason, on your site right now, we have specifically created an iPhone Insurance policy - to offer all those hoards of new iPhone owners everything they need - full, sensible protection at a cost-effective rate.

You can see this at http://www.2u.co.uk/iPhoneInsurance

From our research, there is very little competition for iPhone Insurance out there - you could be *miles* ahead.  Have a look on www.google.co.uk and search for “iPhone insurance” - you will see there is little else available.

This means the market is wide open for you.

Now here is what we suggest you do …

* Build your own separate website for iPhone Insurance

If you already have your own insurance website, then add iPhone Insurance pages to it.  You will then have a far greater chance of climbing up the search engines for an “iPhone insurance” search - while there is little competition.

If you have not yet built your own separate website (other than your .2u.co.uk site) then you need to do this first.  For the tutorial on how to do this go to http://www.2uaffiliates.com/training-centre/MarketingHelp/AffiliateMarketingHelp

Once you have your own separate website then you should write your own insurance pages and promote the 2u iPhone Insurance there.  You should read these guidelines on how to write your own insurance pages - http://www.2uaffiliates.com/articles/2007/09/27/how-to-write-your-own-insurance-web-pages/

On the bottom of each page promoting the 2u insurance, you must put the FSA Compliance iframe. You can get (and customise) this by logging in with your normal 2u login details at http://www.2uaffiliates.com/training-centre/fsa

There are now new non-branded order form pages which you can use in your site.  So when your customer goes from your own iPhone insurance website, with its look and feel, they are then not confused by seeing the 2u brand - they see the plain non-branded order form.

The non-branded order form pages are available at the end of
the FSA Compliance iframe customisation at http://www.2uaffiliates.com/training-centre/fsa

So that is it.  You need to create your own iPhone Insurance website pages so you can get quickly up the search engine results, while there is little competition.

Then you can be ready to take advantage of the new demand for iPhone Insurance.

Once you have put all of this into action, if you have any questions, please feel free to use the 2u Forum at http://www.2uaffiliates.com/forum.

Good luck promoting the 2u iPhone Insurance!

Mobile Insurance - My Mistake

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

My PERSONAL Experience

Thank you for clicking through. This totally proves the value of what you have

Here’s the story …

Last Friday was a fantastic HOT day here. It was a real
shorts-and-T-shirts day. It was for me.

After a hard week working we treated ourselves to 1 or
2 drinks at the office in the afternoon, unwinding and
talking things through.

I then went home (and no, I did not drive). Being a
hot day, the kids wanted to go in the paddling pool
(about knee-deep) in the garden.

In the excitement of playing with the kids, and maybe
with a slightly less-than-clear head, I guess I wasn’t
quite thinking straight …

Picture this …

There I am, on all fours in the paddling pool, with our
6 year old, Katie sitting on my back. She is laughing away, squealing with delight …

I start doing press-ups to plunge her into the cool water,
with me then lying on the bottom of the pool under water,
then coming back up …

After about 3 of these water-press-up plunges, a slow, cringing
“Oh my goodness …” feeling comes over me

I ask Katie to jump off, I stand up, put my hand to my right
pocket … where my phone normally is …

And pull out a VERY wet mobile phone!

It is totally dead. My phone is an ex-phone.

Normally I always know EXACTLY where my phone is and I’m
very careful. Normally, I would be kicking myself, but to be honest, although my phone was
ruined, I was surprisingly calm (even I was surprised how
calm I was!).

Why? Because I knew that all of the address book was backed up and
stored, and the phone was insured … with none other
than our own 2U Mobile Phone Insurance Executive Policy
cover.

So, Monday morning I called our insurance team to make a
claim (they are in a different office). And no, I didn’t ‘pull rank’ in any way.

The claims form was faxed straight to me. I filled it in and
faxed it back. I sent the damaged phone off by courier
(the quicker it gets to them, the quicker it is
processed, the quicker I get my phone back).

This morning, Wednesday, I get a brand new and shiny
Nokia N70 delivered to me. I am now all smiles at getting
my phone back.

What would this have cost if I was not insured ?

Well, I did an upgrade about 5 months ago, so not a
chance of getting one free on upgrade.

From a quick search on Google, the Nokia N70 now costs
about £330 to £350.

5 months of insurance premium at £7.99 a month totals

£39.95 …

So about ONE TENTH of the cost of replacing it myself!

In summary, I am VERY glad I insured my phone -
it saved me about £300.

Have YOU got YOUR phone insured and protected?

If not, go now to

www.2u.co.uk/mobile-phone-insurance/

Go there now, insure your phone AND earn your own sales
COMMISSION.

Speak with you soon,

Duncan Elliott

T-Mobile ARE BACK

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Hi,

After a weekend of T-Mobile being off (due to fluctuating commercials) T-MOBILE ARE BACK ON YOUR 2U site.

Mobile Phones Insurance - Why it is STILL Effective AND Efficient

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Word count: 953 Read-time: 5-7 minutes

You may have read an article in recent weeks or months about a report published by the BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) that broadly criticised mobile phone insurance as a whole. The BIBA is a body that largely protects household insurers, which makes the ‘research’ considerably biased - read on for why …

The article criticized the industry as a whole, without dissecting the good from the bad. There was no positive solution on reading. For example there are a number of mobile phone insurance options that cover the customer whilst making economical sense. There are also a number of other benefits that were ignored – for example the time of replacement for those who need their phone back as soon as possible.

When you do the maths, the BIBA report ‘research’ was almost entirely unfounded.

One of the key criticisms that the report levels was that many do not cover loss. That is one of the 2U policy’s main selling points! 2U is one of the limited few who DO COVER LOSS. Why 2U policy was not included is unknown, especially given that 2U are so widely publicised on the web – type “mobile phone insurance” into www.google.com or www.msn.com. And you will be sure to find 2u.co.uk or 2U affiliate resellers. Did this report’s researcher do all their homework?

The principle problem with phones and insurance is that most people are not aware of the replacement cost - ie the value - of their phone. Because many people are given the phone free, or at a highly discounted rate, they do not realise how much they actually cost without the contract.

For example, the highly popular Samsung D600 is about £240. The increasingly popular Nokia 8800 is about £520 - £550 to buy if you had to replace it.

Now, if you have a cheap phone (eg only worth £100) and an expensive insurance premium (ie £8 to £10 per month), then obviously, this is not good value. A year’s premium would cost you £120 ie more than the value of the phone.

However, if you get an effective policy, such as the 2U cover, it represents good value for money. Take for example, the Samsung D600. It is worth about £240. It goes on the Standard policy at £5.88, covering the phone for the full 2U cover (loss, theft water damage etc). A year’s cover is then £70.

That means that the customer would have to keep their phone and keep insuring it for 3 YEARS before it became uneconomical to insure! How many people have their phones for 3 years? Not that many in today’s market! Most upgrade to the latest phone each year or at least once every 2 years.

This means that the customer is cost effectively protecting themselves.

Yes, one could argue that customers could simply upgrade to a new phone if their phone is lost or stolen etc … IF the network will let them. If the customer spends less than £30 per month on average, most networks will not upgrade a customer within the 12 months of the contract. In our experience a customer must have a very high bill-spend to obtain an upgrade within 11 months from signing a new 12 month contract.

For this reason, we recommend people insure their phone for at least the first 9 to 11 months of their contract. If you then wish to cancel the insurance, you are free to do so with the 2U policy, because there is no long-term contract (some other providers do insist on a 12 month contract). Once you have later upgraded to a new phone, you can then get that new phone insured.

Another major flaw with this report is that it suggested that a customer might be better suited to add their phone to their home insurance. There are 3 main reasons why that would be singularly unwise;

1. Usually home insurance policies have a FAR higher excess than any mobile insurance policy, often £150 plus.

2. If you make a claim (albeit relatively small) for your mobile on your house insurance, what is going to happen to your house insurance premium next year? It will go through the roof. Now who might benefit from your house insurance going up next year? Who was this report produced by again? … The BIBA, the British Insurance Broker’s Association (quote from their website) is a “general insurance organisation. We represent the interests of insurance brokers” – and lists most major home insurance companies among their members - http://www.biba.org.uk/consumer/partners.html

3. How long would you comfortably be without your phone? You might expect it to be a long while for your house insurance to process a claim. From personal experience, the last time a family member of mine had to claim on house insurance, it took WEEKS. Most customers cannot accept to wait weeks for their phone to be replaced. 2U Insurance processes claims within 48 hours. Are household insurers experts at replacing phones?

Would you go to get your tooth fixed in a general hospital? Probably not. You would go to the expert, the specialist - the dentist. In the same way, intelligent people use specialist insurance firms.

Customers should always make their own informed decision. If you have a cheap, old phone, it would not be worth insuring (2U would not start insuring any phone older than 6 months). However, if you have a phone that is less than 6 months old, and worth over £100 (as are most to replace) then a high quality, low-cost policy such as the 2U Insurance, is a cost effective method to get your phone protected. Shop around online and you will find the best protection for you.

World Cup Football Ringtones

Monday, June 26th, 2006

I adapted my Ringtones Quick Customiser site a few weeks back in time for the World Cup Football craziness - and it looks like it somehow slipped through the newsletter timetable, so just as a demo of what you can do to make your ringtones site timely and take advantage of seasonal marketing, have a look at

NEW Ringtones order numbers

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

In this update:

1. NEW Ringtones shortcodes
2. Why this is GREAT NEWS for YOU …
3. Java Games Quick Customiser update - below …

1. NEW Ringtones shortcodes

The new ringtones shortcodes and premium rate number are now released.

Please change all your marketing over to these new numbers as soon as possible.

* SMS orders: Shortcode 80808
* IVR (premium rate) orders: 0906 661 0041

The 2U ringtones sites have ALREADY been changed to use these numbers …

(If you are not yet a Ringtones Reseller login at http://users.2u.co.uk)

The old numbers will continue to be used for a cross-over period until the end of February, and then phased out. The stats for the old numbers will then not show on your site and no commission will be paid on the old numbers after this phase-out.

If you have any other marketing for ringtones, you need to now change them to use these new numbers.

Do you have leaflets printed for ringtones? Do you have your own ringtones website (other than the 2U-provided sites)?

You need to change to these new numbers now.

2. Why this is GREAT NEWS for YOU …

This is great news for you because …

  1. The stats in your login area at http://users.2u.co.uk
are DETAILED. For example I just did a test SMS order
(ordering by text message). In my login I can now see
the following …”SMS Polyphonic Ringtone: Kaiser Chiefs Everyday I Love
    You Less And Less”
  2. So this new system tells you …

    - How they ordered (SMS or IVR)
    - What type of product (Polyphonic, Java games etc)
    - Name of the product - artist and title

  3. The stats are fully real time. There will always be some
delay because it will always depend on the networks passing
information through to us, but as soon as we have it, it
    shows in your stats.
  4. Transparency of stats. This one needs some explaining
because you need to understand how the ringtones ordering
process works …IVR: This is more straight forward - the customer picks up
the phone, dials 0906 661 0041, gets charged £1.50 per minute
and follows the order instructions on the phone to complete
    the order.

When the order is completed, the order comes through with
a status of “Completed”, because the customer has paid.
This goes straight into your stats as “Completed”.

SMS: The customer sends a text message (SMS) to 80808.
The message of the SMS tells our system what the customer
wants and who the affiliate is (by the first 4 numbers in
    the message).

The customer then gets 3 messages back to their phone, each
billing them £1.50 (this is how they pay for the product).
We then get confirmation for each of these 3 x £1.50 text
messages that they have been paid for.

As such this is a 2 stage process …

    1. Customer texts their order to us, then
    2. Payment confirmation: We get 3 confirmations at £1.50
This is reflected in your new stats system. You have
greater transparency in seeing this happen.

If there is a delay (usually due to the network’s system)
between the first part and the second part, you will see
a new order appear in your stats marked as “Pending”
(similar to the phones orders when they come in).

Then, as and when the payment confirmations come in (step 2)
you see the order change from “Pending” to “Completed”.
Once it is completed it means the customer has paid for it,
and therefore you get your commission!

These are just 3 reasons why this change is GREAT NEWS for YOU.
There are other reasons to do with the transfer of data, but
they are quite technical. These are the 3 key reasons why
this will help you get a better understanding of your 2U
Ringtones Reseller business - so you can build and grow your
Ringtones business!

If you are not yet subscribed as a 2U Ringtones Reseller you
can do so now at http://users.2u.co.uk

3. Java Games Quick Customiser update …

I should be announcing the launch of the Java Games Quick
Customiser tomorrow, pending final checks and tests.

It will be a Java-Games-only version similar to the Ringtones
Quick Customiser. You will find this Ringtones Quick
Customiser at
http://www.polyphonic-ringtone-ringtones.com/admin/
Are you using the Ringtones Quick Customiser?
http://www.polyphonic-ringtone-ringtones.com/admin/

run - totally FREE.

I will be in touch just as soon as we are 100% happy with the
Java Games Quick Customiser and it is launched.

That’s all for now.

Ringtones Shortcodes

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

The ringtones shortcodes have NOT yet changed - they will in a few weeks. We have a few technical changes to make first.

There will be an overlap of both the old codes and the new codes, so in case you still have orders coming through the old code (once the new codes are launched) you will still benefit.

Are you using the Ringtones Quick Customiser? The Java Games Quick Customiser will be out soon. This is a similar Quick Customiser, where you can create and customise your own separate site, but just for Java Games … coming soon.

Speak soon.
