"I joined 2u as an affiliate in May, having very little experience of affiliate schemes.
I was eager to make money but knew that it would not come by just sitting and waiting for customers to make a purchase.
Initially I began by using PPC (Pay-Per-Click) on a number of search engines - I started at a low cost of about 5-10p per click to "test the water" and in my first month sold 3 policies. In my second month I upped the cost per click slightly and sold 8 policies - Not big business and not a profit maker.
Having done this I realised that more effort was needed, so I went back to the 2u site and read the info at the Affiliate Training Centre.
Following on from this I realised that I needed to create my own website. This would help me in the search engine rankings and promote a "specialist" mobile phone insurance website. (This was the area where I saw most money - especially due to the increase in commissions!)
So my marketing was twofold. I focused my efforts on ...
- Search Engine Optimisation: This means tweaking and changing my own site
insure-your-mobile.co.uk (I only got it recently) so the search engines like it.
- Pay Per Click: This brings in tageted traffic because it only 'advertises' when someone searches for specific keyword expression (eg "mobile phone insurance).
Needless to say, my sales have increased dramatically since and I am now making a very good profit!
The website was working so well I created another - this time a one page site, but this helps with the SEO together. Both sites are generating customers.
To show you how well it is working, here are my commission stats since I joined. Notice the slow start while I was testing the water, then it shoots up in July and thereafter.

This PPC campaign has been across eSpotting, Google and Overture, with 75% of traffic coming through Google, 15% through eSpotting and 10% through Overture. The overall clicks to sales conversion ratio is running between 3% - 10%, which by industry standards is FAR above the norm.
PPC is difficult but profitable. I have to be very careful I don't pay too much per click, and that I get enough sales from those clicks.
I would whole heartedly recommend that all 2u affiliates who actually want to make money, buy a domain name and create (or have created for them) their own website - this can be tailored to certain products like mobile phone insurance or the new 3g phones or can include all the available products.
A family member was so impressed with the profit I am making, they joined 2u and requested that I make a website for them - this one is for 3g phones. I work with them on this - they sell the phones and I sell the insurance. It's still early days for this site, but I am hoping that a profit will also me made. With hard work and determination (and a bit of capital thrown in) you can make money with 2u - in fact my aim is to give up the day job soon!

So you can see phillip is very successful working from home, without huge capital input or an existing company, employees etc. He has built his 2u mobile Phone Insurance website up within 5 months to earn him £2,211 this month, or a calculated annual earning of at least £26,500. That is based on this months sales, but if his sales growth trend continues, it will be FAR higher than just £26,500!
